Isturgi (Andújar)
Q97632093Isturgi: ancient town on the river Guadalquivir, modern Andújar.
The ancient town of Isturgi - sometimes erroneously identified with Illiturgi - is best known for the Roman bridge across the Guadalquivir, which is still in use. The town, officially known as Municipium Isturgi Triumphale, belonged to the juridical district (conventus) of Corduba in Hispania Ulterior (later called Baetica). In the two first centuries of the common era, the town acquired some prosperity from the production of ceramics, and survived into the Visigothic age under the name of Sturgi.
