Ephesus, Gate of Mazaeus and Mithridates
Ephesus (modern Selçuk): ancient Greek town in western Turkey, one of the largest and best excavated cities of the ancient world.
The Gate of Mazaeus and Mithridates, built in 4 or 3 BCE and dedicated to the emperor Augustus, was the monumental entrance to Ephesus' Commercial Agora. Inscriptions on this gate mention the emperor himself and his wife Livia together with one Mazaeus, and Augustus' daughter Julia and her husband Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa with one Mithridates.
Inside one of the three arches, to the left if one enters the agora, there is an interesting graffito of the goddess Hecate.
