Zipoetes I of Bithynia
Zipoetes I (r.c.326-c.278 BCE): king of Bithynia.
Zipoetes I succeeded his father Bas in about 326 BCE, during the reign of Alexander the Great, and managed to keep the Bithynians independent during the Diadoch Wars, fighting mainly against Lysimachus, the ruler of Thrace and - later - Thrace and Asia Minor. When Lysimachus' realm had been taken over by Seleucus I Nicator (after the battle of Corupedium in 281 BCE), and after Seleucus had been killed by Ptolemy Keraunos, Zipoetes fought against Seleucus' son Antiochus I Soter as well.
Zipoetes died in 278, seventy-six years old. His son Nicomedes I succeeded him and immediately killed all his brothers, although Zipoetes II managed to escape and fought a civil war against Nicomedes.
