- 58: Rome annexes Cyprus; riots in Alexandria; king Ptolemy XII Auletes is forced to flee (September); the new rulers of Egypt are queen-mother Cleopatra VI Tryphaena and Berenice IV
- 58/57: Philip II Philoromaeus, the dethroned last king of the Seleucid Empire, tries to obtain the Ptolemaic throne by marrying Berenice IV, but the Roman governor in Syria, Aulus Gabinius, prevents this.
- Summer 57: Berenice becomes sole ruler
- Summer 56: To improve her position, Berenice marries another Seleucid prince, Seleucus Cybiosactes, son of Antiochus X Eusebes and Cleopatra V Selene. He is assassinated. A new husband is found: Archelaus.
- 56/55: Aulus Gabinius agrees to support Ptolemy XII Auletes
- March 55: Ptolemy XII returns to Alexandria
- July 55: Berenice is killed
