Q721807Thirteenth Dynasty: name of the last dynasty of kings of Egypt's "Middle Kingdom".
Summary
- After the splendor of the Twelfth Dynasty, there were many rulers, but none of them was particularly import, even though some of them could have long reigns
- The main royal residence, which had been at the (unidentified) Itj-tawi, was transferred to Thebes in the south
- Egypt gradually loses control of Nubia
- In the Second Intermediary Period, Lower Egypt will be ruled by the Fourteenth (which breaks away first), Fifteenth ("Hyksos"), and Sixteenth Dynasties; in Thebes, the Seventeenth Dynasty succeeds the Thirteenth
